I've only played two games so far, and I'm still in game 2 at the moment. My question, how long does it take to demast a ship? Any ship for that matter, as I have pounded many a ship's sails into obscurity but never do I see the mast fall. I've seen a pic in these forums that show 2 sloops duking it out with both masts down so I know it can happen. Am I not pounding them enough to have this happen or what? I'd kinda like to actually see this in my game. Sailor

I think you may have already demasted ships, but just not seen it. You have to turn up your graphics settings (or was it video?) in the game to see all the special effects (demasting, "realistic" water, crew fighting on deck etc.).

If I'm not mistaken, my graphic settings are on high or whatever the max setting is called. I see plenty of crew fighting on the deck and the water does look pretty darn realistic to me. I even occasinally see 'swirls' in the water when a gust of wind passes by. I'll check my settings again tonight just to be sure but I don't think this is it. Confused

Well you were right on the money Wolfwood. Sure enough, I checked out my graphic settings and they were set to the medium settings. I switched them to high and WOW!, I see what you mean about realistic water affects...and now I can demast the ships. Thanks!

Depends on Whom you get into a fight with it seems to me.
I normaly see demasting when i get into a serious firefight with the
three big villains, Monty,Reymo and Mendoza.
You can pound thier ships all day it seems and not sink them.
I've never noticed this with named pirates ships,,the firefight is normaly over before demasting occurs when i go up against them. That or i've just
never noticed.
Up against un-named pirates/merchants/warships, seems they just explode
into toothpicks after 'X' number of shots and never demast.

thought everybody knew, them named Evil Spaniards cannot be sunk. So you can poundie on them all day with round shot and nothing much will happen.
Otherwise the story line (thin as it is) becomes rather difficult.
Just imagine, you are after the guy who stole your girl, the ship gets sunk.
Now what do you do?

Anybody else in the game, and they get sunk.

To de-mast try chain shot.

I have disposed of quite a few lesser named pirates by sinking them. It's not worth it really, gold doesn't float.

I can demast almost any ship with my fully loaded Royal Sloop (20 cannon) using 2 broadsides of chain shot (more if they are off target, of course). In fact, Stede Bonnet struck his colors after I demasted his ship. COWARD!!!!

Very Happy
