A ship, being the key to our lives as pirates, requires maintenance and the like but it also requires something more. It needs a name. A nameless vessel is not a worthy vessel. She's just a hunk o' wood floatin' on the blue. So people who cares to share the name of their flagship?

I'm still going with the three "Biblical bad girls".
Flagship is Jezebel, a brig class.
Secondary ship is Delilah, another brig type.
Third is a sloop (for taking on pinnaces and other sloops), the Salome (a dancer seemed appropriate). _________________ I only do what the voices in my head tell me to do. |

Flint sails on the Brig o War "Hemlock". It be his favorite tree and also makes a mean poison to kill off those mutinous first mates.
This salty-sea dog served under a little known Spanish privateer whose Frigate was known by the name "Our Lady of Sorrow." The Jesuits in Nombre de Dios had a fit when she pulled into port, calling it blasphemy. The crew subsequently left spanish service, and the majority of them were shipped off to Panama for trying to pillage the city under the captain's orders. Our dear Flint, a welshman under the employ of the cook was released for having no part in the crime (being still onboard raiding the grog stores).
(Just a little backstory for my other ship name) _________________ Cap'n J. Flint

Why would the Jesuits consider this blasphemous? Our Lady of Sorrows is a recognized title of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Since 1439 she has even had a feast day under this title (currently celebrated on 15 September).
More likely, the Jesuits were upset because this name implied favoritism toward a rival order, the Servites, who are dedicated to the Seven Sorrows of Mary. |

I think The Don's invention of "Victorious Secret" is clever
My name's depend largely on the type of game I'm playing, and on whim.
I usually rename Herny Morgan's Large Frigate to High Terror. I think it's a fitting description of the emotion it inspires in merchantman after their escorting sloop is sunk in one volley...
I onced captured a French Ship of the Line and it became the Acheron.
But often I prefer just to keep the name of the ship that I captured. That way, it has a bit of history. I also love the wet smack of irony when the captured english SOL "Surprise" participates in raids against St Kitts. |

When I use the historic Spanish "Jose Gaspar", I rename my first Frigate "Floridablanca" after Gasparila's flagship.
When I play as "Uglor, the Smelly", my flag ship is usually somthing like "Carp Fish" or the sloop "Dog"..... _________________ "I am hurt, but I am not slain;

Aye, Flint believes it was partly for the reputation that ship had in the area. See, that scurvy cap'n had massacreed a whole mission of them Catholics, for harbor'n some fugitive. "Assylum, my arse," he said. It was after this that the small frig took on the name "Our Lady of Sorrow." Some would say it be in mockery of the Abbot from the mission, declarin vengeance and death, and cursin the crew as they broke down doors, and took the valuables in their search. So ye see, it wern't outta revrence, it be outta spite and blood. _________________ Cap'n J. Flint

My 7-year-old names his pirate (Oblivion) and ships (Half-Life and Doom) after M rated games I don't let him play.

I name my sloop. SPQR
Senatus Populus Quiritium Romanus
I don't know why except for my love of Roman history. Maybe sometime I'll come up with a better name.
Hmm maybe the abreviation for
In luce tua videmus lucem.

Avast! I be sailin aboard the "Walrus" on his current voyage. The Hemlock be sittin in port in Grand Bahama. I loved that dear old hunk of wood so much I decided to buy me own dock off the main harbour and set her up as a house. Some of me most loyal men live there as well, to protect her when I be at sea. My wife lives there as well when I'm in port. Who would've thought that gov'ner's daughter woulda taken to the life of piracy the way she did. Argh! _________________ Cap'n J. Flint
