Which ship do you believe that you will use in SM Pirates
I gotta say that 'Royal Sloop' seems to be the best option out there. |

A fully upgraded Royal Sloops is definitely a ship to fear. |

AYE, In the ole days me and me lads could take out a war galleon by crossing her "T" and staying on her stern matching manuvers to stay there
and pound away till we could board her.The sloop was by far the most usefull
lady on the main!!! Ya best keep a weather eye or yer gonna eat a broadside
and that will not make the lads happy seeing as likes being able ta spend their swag, swill a bit o grog, and tickle up a wench or two..... |

The Brig of War (full upgrade!) is my favourite ship! It just plain and simply rocks the waves Then again, I like to carry a Royal Sloop as well - just in case! _________________ Once a pirate, always a pirate!

How is the frigate in the game? - it was my favorite in the original...
Looking at the stats, it seems that the Royal Sloop and Brig of War seem very balanced...
I do want a ship of the line though - can the big ships still blow away pinnaces? _________________ "My Lord, it is a very hard sentence. For my part, I am the innocentest person of them all, only I have been sworn against by perjured persons."

Frigate is a pretty good ship, but if you're looking to take over ships rather than sink 'm, it has some problems. Many of your foes won't stand a double salvo of your cannons.
That's my main problem with the Brigantine too. It just hits too damn hard (or at least did in the Beta) for the smaller tubs. My main ship usually ended up being a Royal Sloop (upgraded) of War and I'd bring a heavy hitter along for the bigger ships. |

Thanks Falconer - Any chance the royal sloop or brig of war will make the shop??? _________________ "My Lord, it is a very hard sentence. For my part, I am the innocentest person of them all, only I have been sworn against by perjured persons."

Perhaps, but don't get your hopes up. Pretty hard finding something that looks similar to the ones we already have and my source doesn't have either. |

I noticed there had been some upgrades in the shop, Falc. I guess the delay in the release of the game had an upside after all.
Again, keep up the good work. _________________ Shiver me timbers!!!

I got a Ship of the Line in one of my first games. It was sweet. However, I was stupid and took it out of port undermanned after divvying up the plunder and got it shot out from under me.
Other than that, I prefer the Frigates (Large and normal) and the Sloop classes. |

I have been using two ships, a Royal Sloop as my flagship and something else, a small frigate with triple hammocks last time, as a troop barge and warehouse. I really like the way the Royal Sloop handles, since I like to do a lot of maneuvering to stay out of my enemies kill zone. _________________ Capt Billy Bones

does anyone have an opinion between a frigate and a brig? i've been relying heavily on a frigate but it sails like a paperweight against the wind, how's the brig? |

Henry Morgan's Large Frigate.
It's not the ship to use if you want to keep your opponent's vessel, but in terms of speed, fire power, and crew capacity, only the ship of the line can match it. With an arsenal of 40 cannons, every type of shot, and capable of holding 300 men, this fast loading monster can also withstand quite a beating.
When battling large ships, simply sail with the wind and pound on the round shot. Keeping a safe distance will allow you to avoid taking damage and give you an advantage to adjusting to sudden wind change.
When battling smaller ships, take out the sails immediately. Sail with the wind, allow the smaller ship to give chase, and turn about 45 to 90 degrees, unloading a wind of chain shot. I don't care how fast a sloop starts, without sails, they are all going the same speed in the end! |
