I realize that it's probably down in that corner on the left, but this map is ridiculous. Nothing to go by.

You will probably need to approach the site from the east side of the Yucatan Peninsula. Sail south along the coast until you see a named landmark at sea, and then strike inland from there. If you don't find any landmarks (or if you can walk through the landmarks) then you're in the wrong place - return to ship and continue sailing south. Find another named landmark and try again. Every treasure or lost city is associated with some sort of named coastal landmark, even if it doesn't appear on your map.
Good luck! |

Yeah, that's what I've been trying, no luck yet. My geography is not so good, so I don't know what the Yucatan Peninsula is, I assume it's that long vertical part campeche is on. I had a map once that said SE of Campeche and it was in the corner all the way down, where the land goes horizontal, don't know what that's called either. Should I expect to find it no further down than that corner, or might it go across and down toward Gran Granada and Rum Lake?
also, when stopping at the named landmark at sea, should I go in directly there, or could it be off to the side? It would help if I knew it was ONLY directly in! |

It's not always directly in, but it is usually close enough that you will see other landmarks on your map and be able to get oriented. I don't think you need to go to Gran Grenada, just go to the other side of the penninsula from Campeche and look in an area that is on a line roughly southeast of the Campeche for a sea coast landmark in that vicinity, head inland and try to locate your mapped landmarks. Roland's hint about testing whether you can walk through them or get stopped is a great one, and can let you know you are in the right spot: if it is one of your mapped landmarks, the game usually will not allow you to walk through it.
The really insane maps are the ones that just tell you to go "north of Vera Cruz" - with no coast showing. |

Yup the Yucatan Peninsula is the landmass that Campeche is on. Your Lost City is probably on the other side of that landmass in the Bay of Honduras down in the SW corner somewhere, but could be anywhere along that Eastern shoreline. Check around this area.

If you receive a Lost City map and it has no water or visible landmarks on it, the first thing to try is to search where Monty's hideout was. The game frequently (but not always) puts some of the lost cities near Monty's hideout. This is assuming that Monty's hideout is in the general area where the map says it is. If the map says "North of Vera Cruz" then don't try looking at the SW end of the Bay of Honduras!
