I've been finding royal sloops particuarly hard to come by lately on my current game and just as I really want one Sad . Can anyone think of any reasons why I haven't seen one around for ages?

I usually get them off of Spanish pirate hunters and the couple named pirates that sail one.

You get Frigates, the same way you get the Royal Sloops. However, instead of the Spanish, you need to go after any other country but Spain.

I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn, and a king.
I've been up and down and over and out, and I know but one thing.
Each time I find myself flat on my face, I pick myself up and get back in the race!!

What are they usually labled as, cause I found one outside Tortuga labled as a French Raider. It started shooting at me and I engaged it, I's really pleased when i found out was a frigate. Arr!

The Frigates will come around with all sorts of "Labels".

"Raider", "Military Payroll", "Pirate Hunter" and "Invasion Force" are a few that come to mind. They'll also say "Frigate", in the PC Version, not sure in the XBOX or PSP games.

The Spanish "unique" form of the Frigate is the Galleon. You'll find no other nation has them..Fairly useless in combat, but if you be interested in taking up a peaceful life as a merchant, you may want one.

Yeah definately a must in a merchant fleet, especially in case you need a ship capable to fight to ward off any pirates.

I thought about "taking up a peaceful life as a merchant" until I captured five or six of those peaceful merchant ships, took all of them, and their cargo to the nearest friendly port and pocketed more gold from the Merchant and Shipwright than the peaceful merchant could make in 3 or 4 years, all in about 3 months.

Aye, I did that for about three days in January 1640 once. Then I realized two major factors that motivate my success in the game:

1) My crew joined me to go for adventure, not to wander around the Caribbean and get seasick and poor. Besides, if I wanted to impress a Spanish or French governor's daughter, I couldn't- because the upper class of those nations saw trade as beneath them- those snobs!

2) To score maximum points in the game, you have to attack other ships- the Evil Spaniards and Named Pirates. Why not practice a little on some other ships? Why not practice a lot- Wink and change the political balance of the Caribbean as I see fit?
