|
|
Something weird is going on in my Pirates! game. Every time I land my pirate near Barbados (even when I start a new game) in order to attack the city, the land and city seem to disappear. It looks like my crew and I are walking on an empty stretch of seawater! I cannot attack the city. When I re-board my ship, however, the city and land re-appear as if nothing had happened. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, is it a bug in the game?
Thank you in advance! |

Yep, it's a bug and happens to everyone. The best way to attack Barbados is to get England, or whatever the current nation is, mad enough at you that they fire their cannons as you approach. Then you'll get the option to, sneak in, attack or sail away |

You could try the old "screwing with the object/ world detail" trick.
It cures everything!!! _________________ Go Fishing.

Are you sure? I don't think I've ever captured Barbados, but I'll try and then I'll post here if this is true, because as far as I know, the only city that's really screwed up is Gran Granada(The one in the middle of an island that can't be entered unless you walk across land )Also, I'd like to say that if you view the smiley's code, then it's the most random thing ever, and that it sounds like a story! Lol. _________________ All your ports are belong to us!

I think the only way to attack Barbados is to establish enough hostility that you are given the option to attack when you sail straight into port. If it is not hostile already, I usually try to capture or sink a few ships entering or leaving, and maybe bombard from sea by sailing past and depressing the space bar.
Also, I could be wrong, but I don't think I have ever seen the AI take it for any other nation - it is always English unless I change the governor. |

I think the bug is there for the same reason St. Eustatius is virtually unsackable (can't land a party on the island) - so that the English and Dutch aren't completely kicked out of the game. |

Maybe, but I think it has something to do with them being at the edge of the grid. |

so sail by while bombarding the fort (Space bar on PC)
until they are cheesed off enough for you to attack the city.
Then convert it.
You can bounce any nation out of the game. |

Or any two nations , or any three nations.
I do that almost every adventure.
Need to do something while waiting for the Named Pirates to have enough Gold to be worth my Cannon Balls.

Speaking of bugs - Asclepius' multiple posts reveal a current website issue I have encountered too. You hit "submit" and get an error message - even though the post has completed. Based on the error message, you try again, and before you know it, you have repeated. You can fix by deleting the excess posts in the upper right corner - but it is annoying. Here is the error message:
Failed sending email :: PHP ::
DEBUG MODE
Line : 234
File : emailer.php |

I receive the same error message. I thought it was just a problem with my browser, so I never said anything. I was also logged out for some reason a few days ago, and the main page never brought up the login form for me to log back in. Had to find another way. |

Kristian is of course correct yet again.
We have been changing servers and have encountered a couple of rough spots along the way. Falc. is a master at doing this though and it should be cleared up asap.
In addition the site should start loading even faster for you once all is said and done. _________________

I'm pretty sure Barbados is the only one that's outright impossible to land on since it's bugged; I've managed to find a location/angle on all the tiny islands, like the Dutch ones or Cartagena, that allows landing. Not sure about St. Eustatius though.

That sounds like a real fix, care to explain how to do it?
About the forums error message, I dunno if it's fixed now, but I had that happen on an forum back in 2004 -- the way to stop that is to go to the phpBB admin panel » Configuration (under the 'General Admin' heading on the sidebar) » change the "use SMTP server for email" setting down at the bottom. I don't remember if it needs to be on or off, but if the error's appearing still then you should set it to whatever it's not currently set to.
Note that this may also require some tweaking of the other email settings for it to properly send emails afterwards.
Edit: well now I know it's still happening because I just got it when I posted. _________________
