Set a faster ship as the flag ship to drag your fleet around - then change Ships for the battles.

I've grown to lazy to change ships every time i attack. Now i just keep the biggest, baddest ship i can get and sell off the rest:

1. any frigate
2. any brig
3. any sloop

When using more than one ship, the rest of the ships will slow you down no matter what, especially when turning. And if any of them pirate hunters show up, they'll bombard your towed ship to pieces as it's impossible to dodge their shots...

I take everything every time. Gold, Food, Cannons, Goods, Ship, you name it! The only exception is when his sails are almost gone, then I let it go. That's why i rarely use Chain Shot, it pretty much chops the gold you get from a ship in half.

except that we now know that the Guru is playing in the unpatched game and butting his head against things fixed by the patch.

So mock the Guru at will.

I never sink anything. I usually don't even fire my cannons - I'd rather have undamaged prizes to sell.

Now, now, mateys, don't be waylaying Guru (and, Guru, watch yerself around these rogues)!

How about being helpful for a change (self-interested pirates though ye be), and saying,

"Avast, Guru! To change yer ship, tap the Tab key!"

In the early part of the game, I never, ever, ever open fire. I collect a total of eight ships, then head for safety. When I get into a friendly port, I sell off all of the ships I can.

When I become a Duke, I can pummel enemy ships if feasible, because I get those ships patched and upgraded for free! That's when broadsides become fun.

That's a good point. And you don't even have to be Duke, you can start having fun as a Count Wink Innocent

Exactly how I feel right now - I went out last night with some mates - not something I usually do in the middle of the week - and now I am feeling that it should be Saturday - not Thursday.
