Aye, true; but we get the glory, the fame, the lion's share of the treasure, the promotions, and the girl. So, it works out fairly well in the end.

The true question is this. How is it that your guy always hits the enemy's armpits; how is it that after getting hit by a pistol or two the enemy is still agile as a cat; how is it that pistols aren't fatal EVER, anyway.

Also, being shot thirty-two times in the armpit is not as bad itself as getting your ship sunk or captured up to 16 (or even more, if you fight him with a full map) times. You must be really a ridiculous baboon among the Spanish!

To my way of thinking the real question is:
How come no matter how many times my opponents fire shots at me...
Not one ever hits me?
He fires, I turn my body to the side and he misses. Every time.
That's just....
Weird.

No, if you actually look closer, he fires, and misses. The guy looks to the side after that, to see where the bullet lodged itself in, then makes a mental note to tell the shipwright. This before they unsheath swords.

Captain Blood,

Pistols are a newfangled weapon with which few people are expert shots. They use them slowly and carefully, telegraphing their aim. You have seen pistols fired so often that you know intuitively where not to be when one goes off. Meanwhile, your opponents, who are trembling with fear at the prospect of crossing swords with the infamous Captain Blood, have trouble holding their weapons steady in the heat of battle.

Nay, matey, not Superman. You are more like Batman, citizen!

Like something that Batman probably has, there's a force field in your hero's belt buckle that deflects bullets to his right by a foot or so.

Its source of power- in my games- is my privateer hero's pure and noble English heart.

What powers the force fields of your less-noble pirate characters, mateys?

My force field is powered by the love and adoration of all the cloned governors daugthers in my cabin.
That's a powerful force that cannot be denied!

Now, if I could just figure out how to make that power my sails, even a War Canoe would never be able to catch my my mighty SoTL Worship !

Indeed, Captain Blood?

In another thread, ye have confessed ye can't remember any of their names!

Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but upon being introduced, learning a lady's name is kind of the first thing ye find out, from where I come from...

But, once again, unlike you (and you have my sympathy, ye wretched, lonely pirate who has to kidnap women-cloned women, at that), my character is a wholesome, virtuous, happily-married, English privateer and gentleman, whose strength is that of ten lascivious pirates, because his heart is pure!

Back to the subject of using pistols... If the enemy captain has been shot why doesn't he show his injury while fighting? You know, like, slower reaction time, slower thrusts and swinging of his blade, or maybe a little bit of blood on his shoulder...

for the same reason that you don't either.

too much to program when Sid was just concentrating on getting the product to press - not making it work better.

Dave,
You're trying to hold up the integrity and virtue of English ship Captains?
Obviously Horatio Nelson is NOT who you are thinking of!
I believe there was a tad of a scandal over the very married Nelson and a certain also very married Lady Hamilton...

So if it's English virtuosity you're putting up as a standard...
You might want to think about that.

You are right, rupert, too much programming would just slow the game down. It is a very entertaining game as it is. My son, Blonde Pirate, and I were talking about changes and it came up during our conversation.

Absolutely right!

I was using my hero's character- as an example of what every Captain worth his salt ought to be!

As for Nelson-and all celebrities, past and present- with their groupies- their sordid conduct is their lookout, not mine!
