In the old game, you were constantly being offered new sailors through the ships you captured.

In SidMeiers Pirates-verision , I am only being offered new sailor the first 2-3 times I attack ship per game.

There has to be some parameter/setting that has been altered which makes enemy crewmember less likely to choose the exciting life of a Pyrate ! (go figure)

Any ideas?

I do believe that you'll only get an offer to join your crew if your current crew is Happy, and you have room for new crew. You won't be asked if others can join your crew if your current crew is not Happy or at least very very Content. So, you'll get offers from the first couple of ships you capture, and will still get the offer if you keep your crew thrilled, but that is quite the challenge, in and of itself.

Crew from other ships will try to join if...

1- you have lots of dough Greedy
2- if you are young
3- if you are on a realy easy level

Well, that should explain it.
After the inital phase of the game, I only ever manage to keep my crew Content. Happy seems rather unattainable..

I agree with what everyone has been saying. A big factor is room.

For example, in one adventure all I used was one War Canoe and would go straight in and board a ship to fight with my 72 men. In every battle, I would lose men. But I would ALWAYS get volunteers from the enemy ships to replace my losses.

In other adventures where I've had a larger fleet and more men, I rarely get any volunteers from enemy ships, unless my crew compliment has gotten so low to a point where volunteers feel it would be advantageous to join up.

Perhaps we're all just spoiled on the old game. The amount of enemy volunteers wanting to join your crew was obscene. Sometimes you'd kill so many crewman that they'd be down to 18 men, and yet somehow 36 would miraculously appear and want to sign up after the battle. Laughing

Maybe sailors used to count differently than other people...?

That's the thing I suppose Smile
I remember that I almost never had to go to port to recruit. It was just to round up a spanish war galleon & you had the recruits lining up to join after the battle Sailor Very Happy

The huge amounts of crew that could be lifted off defeated ships is but one minor thing I miss from the old days. What I really miss is when Panama was worth the walk.

6 digit gold...sniff...
