Hello all,
First of all I would just like to say I was a player of Pirates Gold back in the day. I just found this forum and am enjoying it.
When I start off in this game and decide I want to big ship with all upgrades, I simply keep trading up until I have a good enough ship to go after Baron Raymondo. When I capture him, I keep his ship as my flagship for the remainder of the game. He ALWAYS has a War Galleon with all upgrades. |

Welcome to the world of Cutlass Isle! You'll find that you end up spending more time at this forum then you do playing the game. |

Let me be the first to welcome you to the forum! Stick around, you might like it.
That said, that war galleon is hardly the best ship around. Sure it has a lot of cannon and space for men and cargo, but it is not as fast or as manuverable as a Frigate, which carries just as many guns if memory serves. _________________ "Even the strongest man must sleep and even the smallest child can carry a knife" -Hobbes |

If you want a Frigate, find and defeat Blackbeard. For a Large Frigate, take down Henry Morgan.
Though personally I prefer the Brig of War, which makes Captain William Kidd my primary target. Thirty-two guns, 200 crew (300 with triple hammocks), and she's good at tacking into the wind and engaging those snippety Sloops that smugglers like to use. _________________ I only do what the voices in my head tell me to do. |

Silly Me.
Do the [named] pirate ships have all upgrades?
Personally, I like that once you get Ray's ship, you've got them all. |

No, the named pirates do not have all the upgrades. Some of them have only 2 or 3 and others, like Henry Morgan, have most of them. I think the best bets of ships from the named pirates are Roc Brasiliano's Royal Sloop (excellent ship!) and Henry Morgan's Large Frigate.
Welcome aboard, you'll like the info here! Start experimenting in the game. Learn how to fence, dance, fight land battles and ship battles. You need to learn all these skills and it just takes lots of practice.
After you've gotten pretty good you will (probably) learn to like smaller, faster ships because they allow you to move around the map more quickly and complete your missions sooner. Time is your enemy! Don't try to marry a beautiful daughter after you are too old the fence well. Same for knocking off Monty (Montalban) at his hideout, you need to be able to fence well. That's why a bunch of us here use sloops and even war canoes to finish our missions earlier in life. Look forward to hearing from you!

Welcome aboard Cutlass Isle, Matey!
If you want a good ship with speed and a punch get yourself a frigate or large frigate or the ever elusive ship-of-the-line. Great firepower, good crew number, good turning radius (under reefed sails), good speed at all points except into the wind. They are much faster than any of the galleons.
Happy pirating! _________________ Money makes the monkey dance! |

thanks all.
BTW, I've been playing for a little while so I've gotten good at ship to ship combat, fencing, and I kick ass at dancing. |

This weekend I started a new game in which early on I captured a sloop of war with five or six upgrades. I've since collected the rest of the upgrades. This ship is great! Very Fast, and 200 crew. With this speed an manueverability, 20 cannons is enough.
I'll never go back to the War Galleon idea.

"Follow the bouncing... uh..."
BTW, if you think the sloop of war is something, try its big brother, the royal sloop. Track down Roc Brasiliano and take his away from him. With 20 cannon and 125 crew (187 with Triple Hammocks), swift and maneuverable and good tacking against the wind, it rocks. _________________ I only do what the voices in my head tell me to do. |

cgm3 is right, it rocks. It also has a bit more cargo capacity too. You can also get them as pirate hunters, on the second level. Just keep pissing someone off. |

No doubt about it, the Royal Sloop is an awesome ship! Fast, manuverable and packs a punch. 187 crew with triple hammocks, it ia a great all-around ship! They are also very commonly used when you volunteer to escort a governor from a settlement to a major port. When a mayor asks you to escort him, he will be in a sloop, Royal Sloop or a Mail Runner. Same thing for escorting offers of truce or ultimatums from the major ports, they could be any small ship, so keep an eye out and volunteer!!!

You can even check to see if your [img] and [url] stuff works too. |
