personally i like having a squre rigged and a triangle sailed ship in my fleet. early on this is a fluyt and a coastal barque, while later it is a war canoe and royal sloop. having one of each type helps you sail faster.

You can't know how much is on board till you capture the treasure galleon. Lost

Hey, those weren't in the choices we were given!

Isn't all the swag we swindle ill-gotten (at least, from our victim's point of view)?

Obviously you can't tell what's on what until you take the Galleons, but I'd prefer the one with the luxuries - they sell for better prices around the Carribean than any other plunder.

All the time. No, actually that was the third game I started after I bought it 3 years ago. The first two games, I divided the plunder every time the crew started grumbling and ended up getting forced into retirement. I was still trying to figure out the game mechanics like dancing and dueling and decided on my next game to see how long I could go if I didn't divide the plunder. It just kind of rolled on from there to see if there were any limits to the game. I've never divided the plunder in a game since then and I usually play at adventurer, it seems to be the most fun with still a bit of challenge. Sometimes I'll play at rogue and even less at swashbuckler. After three years of playing, I've reached Governor with 126pts. at every level so many times and that part of the challenge is pretty well gone.

I took the food - as if I had chased the fleet that far - I my crew might be getting a bit peckish.

Assuming as Loki pointed out - that somehow you knew before you attacked which one had the food in it.

Aye, that be a good choice. Food, coin, and a good ship- those are what ye need to keep a crew and a business going! The rest is secondary.

That's true, food is a good choice, but I would choose the coins (Luxuries, since they sell consistently high in all ports).

Yup, you don't need any food, as long as you have enough gold to keep them from mutiny, that's all that matters. It just gets annoying to hear that pop-up "Captain, your crew is starving" every five(?) minutes. Smile

Well, we must remember they are a scurvy, ungrateful, cutthroat lot. They may whine a bit - they are almost always unhappy anyway, except when they are mutinous - and they are just as happy to see their mates die off if it means more gold for their share, but they would always choose the gold over food or anything else.
