Lost mods preservation project

Hi all,

Over the past weeks I have been trying to collect all the mods that have ever been made for SMP.
I have now approximately 1200+ files, catalogued by mod type and if possible prepared for use with the ModMgr software. These include the mods found in HOPs database, from the Addicted forums, from the Civilisation forums as well as others that I found by chance.

My intention is to create a sort of "SMP collector's edition" DVD that would include all the mods and extra files. Important: This project in no way would be a "pirated" edition of the game!
I would just prepare a package, launcher scripts etc., with an empty folder and instructions on how people would have to put their own, legal, SMP files from the bought CDs / DVD to make them accessible by the launcher - e.g. it wouldn't include the actual game!
I don't want to make this post too long but I'll gladly add more details if there is interest.

With view to this I would like to send out a CALL FOR MODS.

I am particularly looking for the mods made by the following creators, mentioned on HOP but for which the links are dead. I have already tried to pm these people but there's no answer... Of course I'm aware that these mods were created long ago for the most part!

I am also greatly interested in any "unpublished" mods that you would be willing to share. Absolutely all creations interest me (even 'adult' ones that are not accepted in the mod database), the only caveat being that it should actually *work* eg be playtested.

Would anybody be interested in helping me with that project?

TheDon's New Country Sails are available in the mods section in the Sail Emblems folder in the file countrysailpack.zip. Another mod by TheDon in the same folder is large_piratesails.zip.

I would guess that most of TheDon's mods are available somewhere on HoP. But the only other one of those characters I have even heard of is Jon Lu Ta.

I think the cutlass included was from John Lu Ta's site, don't remember for sure. I couldn't find the rapier mod but it was the green one ala Star Wars light sabre, easy to make a new one and i made a red one as well. The green one is the last rapier you get when you get the second upgrade on the balanced swords. The red one is the first upgrade of balanced swords.

This turns the area around the gunports on your and named pirates ship to white instead of the default black. Also included is a multicolor pennant.

These .dds files take the logos off of the sails for all nations, Indians, mission ships and pirates.
Here is default Spanish war galleon

Adding ship_sail_emblem_lrg_s.dds to the custom folder removes the large logo from all Spanish ships.

Adding ship_sail_emblem_sm_s.dds removes the small logos on all Spanish ships.

I've been wondering about how to best share that package I am trying to put together as it's gonna be very big.

An idea I have would be to make it accessible via bittorrent - I could easily seed it for ages and the bittorrent link could be added to the mods database on HOP. Or would this be too controversial? Many trackers are unfortunately associated with the less savory kind of pirates...

Any thoughts?

With the bartender you only see his head, shirt, vest and arms/hands so I didn't even bother doing anything with the other parts of the .dds files for them. Also, I don't remember how I did it since it was so long ago, but you have to add the bartender category to the "Match Pattern" section at the top right corner in Modmaker, Maybe I added it to Modmanager in order for it to appear there but I'm not sure.
