What is your favorite sword? My personal favorite is the cutlass; I dont think it's the best sword by any means. It has good defense but I like it because I think it makes the sword fights more challenging and more bad ass looking. The rapier looks so wimpy and you dont even really have to possess any skill to use it since you can strike before all others, but all this is just me, what do you guys think?

I like the cutlass because it is a heavy weapon. I would board the enemy ship with an axe if that would be possible. I find it however difficult to fight a rapier with a cutlass so I typically opt for a longsword. |

Rapier for me. Why isn't that in the poll? I believe it is the most popular weapon in the game.
I can't stand cutlass, WAY too slow for me. |

I use the longsword for normal fights at sea. But in the toughest fights - jealous suitor, captain of the guard, Montalban - I always use my trusty cutlass. They can't beat me if they can't hit me, and when I'm using a cutlass I rarely get hit.
I save the rapier for the easiest fights - criminals in the tavern. |

Hooray! I voted for it also, pushing it up to 4 votes (2x more than any other sword). |

Voted for the rapier. I like them in any game and in real life also.
Recently acquired a copy of the rapier used by King Gustavus Vasa of Sweden in the 16th century. Posted a pic of it in the title image of my blog, even:

It really handles beautifully.
The only thing I hate is that rapiers are often shown to be whippy, wimpy swords in movies and media, because people mistake them for modern foils (also early 20th century movies often used foils instead of rapier blades in period movies, so the mistake is understandable). _________________ It is much better to be armed with a sword that has two edges than with an estoc [...], which is nothing more than a stick with a point.
