If you wonder why you can not see the cabin with your telescope you may want to check the ground a bit more carefully if there was a landslide or so :
Luckily my gang always have their shovels with them so we could dig auld grampa out - just so we could bury him again two months later using the same shovels.
My aunt on the other hand had a much nicer view from her cabin. Look at this prime location on a hilltop :
She did not want to leave, she was just angry I kicked her door in saying I could have knocked like the others do as well. |

Do you have to have all pieces of the map (if any) to rescue your family members.
E.g. Can I rescue my sister if I only have 1 piece of the map? |

Yes, you do not even have to have the part with the cross on it. Seems the item (family member, treasure, lost city) is placed at that moment you get the first part of a map.
That means you only need one part of any map to find the item. It also means that the items are not placed at the start of the game so you can not find anything by accident before that quest is active as I am pretty sure that I landed on Yucatan to find a lost city in a spot where I have been before in the game to find a family member - and the lost city was not there where it was later in the game.
That opens a possibility to cheat as if you are about to rescue a relative and you know you get the first part of a map you can save and reload until you have a part with a part of the coast which makes the quest much easier. You can also cheat if you already have one part of the map by saving/reloading until you have "seen" all remaining parts of the map. You could even take screenshots and use a photo program to get you a full map. |
