We saw the incredible Equestrian Statue of Marcus Aurelius in the Capitoline Museum in Rome in October. There is a copy of the statue outside in the middle of Capitoline Hill and the original statue is indoors. It is right next to the Roman Forum in Rome.

There are a number of people in history called so-and-so the Great, but he is the only one I can think of called "the Golden." Quite a tribute.

Late reply from me, but that's a nice point I've not noticed.

I have one of Seneca's books on my reading list.

Marcus Aurelius
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcus_Aurelius

Roman emperor from 161 to 180 and a Stoic philosopher. He was the last of the rulers known as the Five Good Emperors, and the last emperor of the Pax Romana, an age of relative peace and stability for the Roman Empire.

Pax Romana
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pax_Romana

A roughly 200-year-long period in Roman history which is identified with increased and sustained inner hegemonial peace and stability (though not meaning without wars, expansion and revolts). It is traditionally dated as commencing from the accession of Caesar Augustus, founder of the Roman principate, in 27 BC and concluding in 180 AD with the death of Marcus Aurelius, the last of the "good emperors".

During this period of approximately 207 years, the Roman Empire achieved its greatest territorial extent.

The then dictatorial reign of Commodus, later followed by the Year of the Five Emperors and the crisis of the third century, marked the descent "from a kingdom of gold to one of iron and rust"

Commodus
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commodus

A Roman emperor with his father Marcus Aurelius from 177 until his father's death in 180, and solely until 192. His reign is commonly considered to mark the end of the golden period in the history of the Roman Empire known as the Pax Romana.

The Crisis of the Third Century was one of the events that brought the Roman empire to the brink of collapse: Economic crisis, internal strifes and foreign incursions continued for decades, while around 50 emperors and pretenders competed for the throne. A number of political and military leaders, among them Odaenathus, Aurelian, and Diocletian attempted to keep the territory of the Empire intact, while a number of Germanic tribes and the newly formed Sassanid Empire attacked it relentlessly. New states called the Palmyran Empire, and Gallic empire wer founded and the Roman Empire was truly divided.

Gladiator 2: The strangest sequel never made?

https://www.bbc.com/culture/article/20180810-gladiator-2-was-written-and-its-mad

Yes there was a concept for the sequel

even though Russell Crowe as Maximum did die in the original film
but Hollywood never lets minor problems like that get in the way of $
