I've used the Flag and Sail Name how it was displayed in this Forum, with only 3 Charakter instead of the X'es.
(expamle: ship_sail_emblem_lrg_VRR.dds)
But i only become purple Images.
The files are in the right directory: (example: C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\jayjay\Eigene Dateien\My Games\Sid Meier's Pirates!\Custom)
I think i'm too Stupid for that.
So PLEASE can anyone please make me a Flag with this Logo ->
And a Sail with this Logo ->

Your problem has nothing to do with the name.
You can use more than three characters with no problems.
I think it's something to do with the way you are creating the image.
I'll take a look at it later today as soon as I get a few minutes to spare. _________________

I'm not sure exactly..
Maybe you were trying to load a transparent GIF into the DxtBMP
program?
Here's what I do to make a sail:
Crop and resize the image to 512x512 because that's the size of the sails that came with the game, but I don't believe this is required.
Use the magic wand or any other masking tool to mask off the area that you don't want to see and color it WHITE.
Save BMP #1
Now, color the same area BLACK.
Invert selection.
Color remaining area WHITE.
Save BMP #2
Now load the BMP #1 into your DXTBmp program.
Click Alpha > Import Alpha Channel > OK and load BMP #2
File > Save As > DDS Texture
Filename: ship_sail_emblem_lrg_whatever.dds
Save as Type: DDS DXT3 _________________

Can you explain what you mean with "mask off" ?
I'm using paint and I can't get it to work.
I have an image of 512 by 512 pixels that I want to put on the sail made in paint. I load it into DXTbmp, then I load that same inverted picture in the Alpha Channel.
Save it as DTX3 put it into the dir. I can see it in the game when choosing sails, but when I select it I can't see my image on the sail. I only see it with selecting it.
Am I doing something wrong by loading the whole negative picture in the Alpha Channel? What should I do then, because I want the whole 512x512 picture on my sail.

It means that you select the whole area with the magic wand and colour it white. That's what you do with a background that you don't want to see in the final sail.
I haven't encountered the problem that you describe, but I suspect that in your case it may be that your image is "too large" if it only shows when you are selecting it (and at the shipyard in the cities?). This means that the file size of the final .dds may be too big, not that its pixel size is too big physically. Is it a very colourful image with many details?
Another possibility might be that MS paint saves the images in some unwanted format... |

flags are super easy
just resize your flag to 256x256 pixels and save as a BMP
Load the BMP into your Dxtbmp program and save as DDS texture
name your texture as flag_whateveryouwant.dds _________________

512 X 512 is fine
That's the size of the sails that are included with the game.
Your problem sounds like an alpha channel problem to me.
Make sure to review Wolfwood's guide at the top of the Customization & Modding area.
More than likely you are messing up on the ALPHA channel.
When you save the first BMP make sure that you have painted the area that you DON'T want to see WHITE as seen in the WHITE area surrounding the wolf in this picture and save as BMP #1:
NEXT you will want to color the area surrounding the wolf BLACK and then color the wolf SOLID WHITE as seen in this picture and save as BMP #2:
Using the MAGIC WAND or other masking tools can make this task much easier.
PLEASE NOTE: This is not just a negative or inverted picture of the image.
You MUST color the image that you want to appear SOLID WHITE in the ALPHA Channel image
Also make sure to save as DDS DXT3 _________________
