jlandsdo said it took a few months for the map alone. he had to consult a lot of atlas' and web sites to get it all right.

I'm having crazy audio problems. Music just shutting off or sounding like a scratchy broken record.


I also notice some rocks saying Buried Treasure Landmark! but I already found all 9 treasures.

Regarding the music shutting off, try clearing your computer's cache (I use cc cleaner). Not sure if that will help, but it won't hurt anything.

Regarding buried treasure landmarks when there are no treasures in the area, I've noticed that, too. Since I use the maps to sail to the general location of the treasure, I tend to ignore any buried treasure markers that are not in the immediate areas shown on the maps.

I changed the audio setting option from Default to Direct Sound 3D Hardware Support. It seems to have fixed it right up

Should I move this part of the discussion to the 'technical' section, or was the problem unique to the east indies mod?

I haven't played a vanilla game since I've had windows 10. I can't really say, maybe it's just a windows 10 thing?

The East Indies mod would have have no effect on Audio Issues as there simply wasn’t anything modded that would have a effect on it. I haven’t paid much attention but seems like to me the buried treasure land mark text will remain even after the treasure was found but I could be wrong. The only issues specific to the East Indies mod about buried treasure rock landmarks in or near the waters edge sometimes depends on location but they can get covered up in the terrain which I have never seen that happen in the original Caribbean game. Another issue I had a time or two was escorting the new governor as his ship can suddenly disappear then the moment he does he Automatically arrives at the destination city rather then you needing to follow along and stop the attackers from sinking him.

So I had both the assets and customs folder with jlandgdo's first version of the east indies mod put in a sub folder called "east_indies_mod". Full mod in the same named folder, one in assets one in customs. I found just a few settlements on the west half of the map versus none. I also noticed for the first time potential buried treasure landmarks and the rocks that can cause damage to a ship off the coasts also on the western half of the map compared to none before with my first game.


I'm thinking the more cities close to each other the fewer the settlements? And with vanilla pirates I usually played later start dates so I have a question: Are settlements less in the early scenarios compared to later ones, to perhaps mimic less colonial presence? My new game today started in 1600, my previous game was 1660

A question, Pirate. Are all the city ownerships set up the same way no matter the era? you were saying you can't do historic ownership without getting rid of the treasure fleets. So what do the different eras have that are different, just different ship types?

The original game is based in the Caribbean instead of the East Indies and it was also dominated by the Spanish. In the East Indies the Spanish domination ends and most Spanish cities are located in the Philippines. All cities are preset with ownership at the start of a new game and era. These can be changed by modding the excutable with a hex editor. For whatever reason weather it is a lack of city domination or the path the treasure fleets follow in the Caribbean gets blocked out by other nations now owning these cities rather than the Spanish. I’m not yet certain why no treasure fleets appear in the East Indies but I certainly haven’t seen any. I’m sure was you to start sacking cities and appointing Spanish Viceroys you will at some point see the return of the treasure fleets.

I've seen plenty of treasure ships and treasure fleets. Mostly the barmaid says they're heading toward Neira and Cotambo (sp!!) But they're certainly there. I've seen a few settlements where there were none my fist game, second game India is still void which means in time it's all poor and low population from pirate and Indian attacks. No new governors or refugees and a bit of a game killer. Usually I just hang out around Indonesia because of this.

The reason your seeing treasure fleets is because I modded the city ownerships over what the original East Indies mod call for the ownerships to be set at.
