Use PNG as your working Scratch format.
Save as .dds with transparency for use in game
or export from PNG using DXTbmp utility to .dds.

I painted mine black looks better to me. Has red eyes but can't tell that in game. Made goldfish once out of them. I like black better.

One thing I did was to take one of he 'ocean' .dds files, copy and paste it to another folder. I renamed it 'dolphin' and put it in my custom folder. The dolphin was less visible because it matched the ocean.
