After a layoff of over 19 months, DW and I are back on a cruise ship out of Seattle. Will report any pirate sightings as we wander up the Inside Passage to Alaska. Sailor

I wish you smooth sailing, and hope that nobody gets COVID.

Have a safe trip and glad your still with us. As far as pirate sightings I’d be more on the lookout far marine life like Whales etc. Chances of getting robbed by Blackbeard and Bart Roberts are about the same as seeing Eskimo women on the beach in bikinis so if you can get a picture of that I would as it would be educational because most of us can’t picture Eskimo women in bikinis as it’s not exactly a tropical climate up that way. Biggest fear probably is a Covid outbreak and even should you not get it yourself might cause other problems like delay’s of porting and quarantine when you do might turn a good trip into a bad one. Good luck.

We had a great time on the cruise, it's been too long! We saw lots of whales, sea otters, eagles and went to a sanctuary that cares for injured bears. The weather was pretty good and the ship was only half full. We had no lines to wait in anywhere. People were in excellent spirits and having fun. We took hikes in Juneau, Ketchikan and Icy Strait Point (Hoonah). Went on whale watching and bus tours of wildlife sites in Sitka. Alaska is a very special place, so good that it is worth visiting every year.

This maybe of interest,

saw an advert for this

https://www.hurtigruten.co.uk/

Northern Lights and Fjords
Expedition Cruise from Dover

onboard MS Maud
winter 2021/22

Norwegian winter cruising
Dover UK - Calais in France - across the North Sea to Stavanger in southern Norway,
then north along the Norway coast into the Artic Circle

Website should have details of any other cruises

Proof of Covid vacination status probably required
Most european countries now issue a "covid passport"
vaccination status confirmation
Very recent Negative Covid test may also be required

We are busy planning and packing for our next adventure. We fly to Fumicinco Airport, the airport of Rome and take the Leonardo da Vinci train to downtown Termini Station in Rome. We stay in the Napoleon Hotel in Rome for 3 nights and will visit some more sights of Rome. Since this is our third trip there we will see more lesser-known places like Castel Sant Angelo, Palazzo Altemps, Palazzo Calonna, Palazzo Doria Pamphilj and Palazzo Barberini, as well as visiting the Vatican Museum again in depth.

Then, our journey takes us to Civitavecchia - the Port of Rome - to board the Azamara Quest cruise ship for back-to-back cruises to Venice and back spanning 19 nights. We will see lots of Italy, Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro. I hear there are very few tourists in Italy nowadays and our ship, normally 700 passengers, will have around 300 on board. So, this should be a very relaxing cruise! The bad part is we have to be testes several times, wear masks when indoors and go on the ship's shore excursions when in port. We long to get back to normal again!
