Zeebrugge Raid (1918)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeebrugge_Raid
https://www.britannica.com/event/Zeebrugge-Raid-1918

23 April 1918

An attempt by the Royal Navy to block the German U-boats based in the Belgian port of Bruges-Zeebrugge.

The Zeebrugge Raid was promoted by Allied propaganda as a British victory and eight Victoria Crosses were awarded.

A few days after the raid, the Germans had opened the port to submarines at high tide, so the raid can be best described as of limited effectiveness.

Only recently has information become available

Previously it was considered more as a Test of the German Atlantic wall
defenses.

The US during early part of WW2 were more keen that the
Brits in invading France early in say 1942.
Dieppe Raid showed the allies had a ways to go yet to be ready for
D-Day, lessons were learned after Dieppe Raid.
