Heard a few things about this and finally got around to watching it
on DVD.

Was expecting a Pearl Harbor 2.0 where the USS Arizona didn't sink this time,
but not that bad.
Mostly The Enterprise Air group exploits and briefly others.
(longer runtime could help).

Movie has a few minor issues but overall not bad.
The earlier Midway (1976) movie tells the overall story better
but doesn't include the modern CGI scenes.
War and Remembrance mini-series had good limited midway coverage
for its time.

Movie could have used a bit more tighter control over what CGI was included and where it was used.
Some CGI models are overused but look kewl.

Some issues are:

Every US battleship at Pearl Harbor apparently is a Tennesse
Class (triple gun turrets).
Actually mixed classes, some with twin gun turrets.

The sinking Lexington Carrier in the all too brief Coral Sea
segment was shown as a Yorktown class
instead of the correct Lexington Battle Cruiser Converted Carrier

Appears to be 4 Yamato class Battleships in the Japanese
Battleship squadron at Midway. There was only ever 2
and 1 Carrier conversion.

The USN did not know the IJN Yamato was the biggest Battleship
in the world at Midway, they thought it was the size of an Iowa class
at a guess and found out much later the actual size.

The British thought that Yamato had at least 16.1 " guns through
photographic estimation (actually 18.1 ") and passed this info onto Nimitz.
The brits had a photo of both the main & secondary battery and
knew the actual size of the secondary gun and worked out the approx
size of the main battery gun from that.

American Naval intelligence in Washington didn't agree with the Brit's
size estimation and thought it was smaller (about 14") and advised Nimitz as such.

Washington had to be right, simply because they said so, in their view
and this was of course the Japanese and they can't do that assumption.
(ignoring the fact the Japanese had planned using 18 inch guns in a previous battleship class which was cancelled by the Washington naval Treaty
and were unaware of the Washington Memo)

Nimitz by this stage has the previous benefit of Washington & Pearl Harbor
and used his own judgement.
Nimitz was provided with a copy of the Brits's photograph and how they
came to the estimated gun size figure and used the Brit's estimation.

Dauntless dive bombers simply do not handle like a
Spitfire, Mustang or Zero fighter.

Devastor Torpedo bombers were so underpowered,
not capable of carrying both a torpedo and any bombs,
no matter how small.

20mmm AA cannon on a ship at Pearl Harbor, later in the war yes.
The USN found out .50 cal machine guns didn't stop aircraft first
then upgunned later.

Some Kewl scenes where it looks like almost entire squadrons
being shot down during dive bomb attacks.

Does a brief Pearl Harbor attack better than the Pearl harbor (2001)
Movie but skips mostly the battle of the Coral Sea which is a mistake.

The IJN Shakaku & Zuikaku Carriers were not available later for
Midway
(Japanese could easily have combined their resources to get
another Carrier available, but apparently didn't even consider it)
and the US Navy learned essential damage control procedures
which helped later for Midway (Yorktown) & the rest of the Pacific war.

The Battle of Midway, 4th-7th June 1942 - The Navy of the Empire of Japan strikes the island of Midway in the Pacific, in an attempt to draw out the US Pacific Fleet from Pearl Harbor for a final battle.

Note - there are conflicting claims for the successful bomb hits on the Japanese carriers by Dauntless squadrons. What is shown during that particular sequence is intentionally simplified.

Fuchida's false account is that the US got lucky and as the
Japanese Strike package was beginning to Launch,
the US Dauntless dive bombers were screaming down in
their dive bomber attacks.

Actually, only some of the Japanese Zero Fighter Cap were on the
carrier decks due to fending off the various US attacks.
The Japanese simply didn't have enough time due to cycling the Zeros Cap,
to finish re-arming in the carrier hangers, then spotting and
launching the Strike bombers against the USN carriers

Battlehawks 1942 (1988) DOS

The 127-page manual for Battlehawks 1942 includes a 100-page illustrated overview of the Pacific War.

In Battlehawks 1942, the player can participate in four pivotal naval battles of the Pacific war:

Pacific Strike is based on a similar engine as Strike Commander.

In this game, you play a naval aviator during WWII in the Pacific Theater of Operations. You begin your career during the surprise attack on Pearl Harbour, and then continue your career sailing through the Pacific Ocean in your effort to bring the war back to the Japanese homeland. During your cruise, you will be performing strike or escort missions.

Pacific Fighters (2004)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Fighters

Pacific Fighters, is a World War II Combat flight simulation game for Microsoft Windows, developed in Russia by 1C:Maddox Games and distributed by Ubisoft in 2004.

It is in fact a stand-alone expansion pack of IL-2 Sturmovik, released three years earlier in 2001, also developed by 1C:Maddox Games and distributed by Ubisoft.
The latest version corresponds to the IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 compilation, distributed by Ubisoft in 2006.

Pacific Fighters is played online by gamers (Online fighter squadron communities) using a standard IP address or a client server such as Hyperlobby regularly but can be flown offline as well.

The game gives the player 74 flyable aircraft, including variants. It was created by Maddox Games, as a Pacific War expansion of IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles, although it can also be installed as a stand-alone game.

It has two types of missions that can be flown, "dogfights" or "cooperative campaign" modes. In either type, the player can play as either Allied or Axis forces, and the type of aircraft flown usually depends on the mission picked. The game also features a mission editor, allowing the player to make their own missions.

Pacific Fighters was second expansion for Il-2 Sturmovik after Forgotten Battles. It was sold as stand-alone title and could be merged with Forgotten Battles + Ace Expansion Pack. It was developed by 1C Maddox Games and distributed by Ubisoft. It was released in 2004 for Windows.

Graphics engine was upgraded since Forgotten Battles. Shaders were used for water rendering, which looks pretty good even today. Since we've got to see much water in Pacific theatre this was good improvement.

The mission depicted here is from USN fighter campaign in late 1943. We have to defend our task force from sudden Japanese raid. The amount of flak the ships put out is awesome to witness. or all the splashes of water from falling debris and explosions.

I never get tired of watching videos, movies and documentaries about Midway. It was the ultimate crap shoot about an under-sized US Navy took on the Japanese task force and thru daring and luck pulled off the biggest upset in the Pacific War. I loved the 1976 movie and like the 2019 movie too. This history never gets old!

HMS Indefatigable blowing up

The mangled pronunciation of the Indefatigable name was
something to behold (in a fun way)

-----------------------

While the Japanese IJN were then larger than the USN,
The US actually had more aircraft at midway
(including midway Island aircraft)
and an equal number of landing strips
(4 carriers vs 3 carriers & island).
The Japanese did not include as many ships as they could
in order to lure the US carriers out to fight.

(Japanese Battleships were held way back,
other ships were at the Aleutian Islands)

They thought they could take out the Midway air strip, and
had time to pre-position to hit the US carriers when they finally
showed up later from Pearl.

Thanks to Admiral Nimitz & Commander Joseph Rochefort and his team
at Station HYPO at Pearl, Crypto work.
US Carriers were there, ready and waiting at Midway and caught the Japanese
trying to Cycle their Strike bombers.
