Sailing inland .. is this possible

I read in other posts where someone said they were sailing inland to find treasure. Is this possible? If so, how? Whenever I approach a river as marked on the map, all I see is land. Am I missing something??

nope, just a small misunderstanding. you have to land (simply sail into the coast, you'll be asked, whether you wish to let go anchor or not) and then you'll see a small bunch of your cutthroats walking around on land. check the treasure map (you've got one, haven't you? ) and walk to the big red x.

In some of the map, you see some AI galleon sail through the land. that is as close as you can get to sand-sailing.
