The X-Box version has run-over powerups during battle, does it not? Maybe one of the power-ups you can get gives you a "second wind", meaning increased speed and the ability to sail on all points of the ambient wind.
Kinda like getting all the idlers together at the quarterdeck and ordering them to blow against the sheets as hard as their lungs can manage.

You mean:
You feed the crew Beans?
Anyway, they have more than one posted screenshot where the pennent only blows in front of the ship. |

Only in the multiplayer, split-screen 'Vs' mode, not in the regular game.

The Spanish must have gotten so confused as to whom had captured them... so they flown one ship with Dutch and the other with French...
But no matter... since you probably capitalize the opportunity with your pirate flag... |

I've noticed that you CAN fight two ships from different nations if they are close to each other when you attack one of them. I don't think I've seen galleons with other than Spanish flags, though. |

I've fought two nations at once on the PC version. They were allies, one was a pirate hunter after my booty and the other a hapless brig. French and Dutch.
