A recent quiz question got me to thinking how to define a tourist. I have found three definitions. Even though the definitions use different words, they point to the same group of people and should not be considered “rival” definitions. In fact, they aid and abet each other, like members of a well organized criminal gang.
Definition used by shop keepers and non-food street vendors: “Anyone who will pay my inflated prices for the useless stuff I sell.”
Definition used by restaurateurs and street food vendors: “Anyone who will eat my pig swill, and apparently enjoy it, just because they think it is authentic local cuisine.”
Definition used by all tourist boards everywhere in the world: “Anyone who left their common sense at home, but bought their money with them.”
Happy touring. _________________ " ... the mistakes that we male and female mortals make when we have our own way might fairly raise some wonder that we are so fond of it. " George Eliot |

Any resemblance between these definitions and any person, real or fictitious, is deliberate, malicious, and fully actionable, if your lawyer could only find me. _________________ " ... the mistakes that we male and female mortals make when we have our own way might fairly raise some wonder that we are so fond of it. Well, sounds like all that money you wasted wasn't wasted, then. _________________ " ... the mistakes that we male and female mortals make when we have our own way might fairly raise some wonder that we are so fond of it. " George Eliot |

Not a penny wasted! In fact, two days ago the wife and I booked our "Dream" cruise. It will happen in March, 2019 and we sail on the Holland America Eurodam out of San Diego. The trip is 28 days long and visits Hawaii, French Polynesia (including Tahiti and Bora Bora) and the Marquesas Islands before returning home. Should be awesome. |
